Brad Halley

Co-Founder and Co-Owner

Brad Halley is a co-founder and co-owner of Autumnwood Homes along with his partner, Kim Knoppe. Brad has had an extensive career in the design and construction of homes since graduating from Ohio State University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture.

Brad began his career in residential design and construction in 1977 in the Fort Wayne, Indiana area. For the next four years he designed and drafted custom homes for Star Builders. When he was not doing that, he worked in the field in multiple trades honing his knowledge of construction methods, products and processes which was an invaluable asset when it came to home design.

In 1981 Brad began teaching at Northwest Technical College and was the only instructor in the two-year Construction Technology program. There he developed and taught college courses in wood, concrete and steel structures, drafting, plumbing, heating and electrical and surveying.

While at the college Brad was instrumental in initiating, procuring, installing and teaching their first CAD courses. He developed a passive solar design and methods course and built a lab where students would design and build house models and could then test them for their effectiveness in any location, climate and time of the year. Prior to and after his college teaching experience Brad designed and built several passive solar homes.

After teaching, Brad became the Vice President of Operations for estimating, budgeting and production for a large building company in Columbus, Ohio. In 1986 he started his own company, Halley Designs and in 1987 he and his partner, Kim Knoppe, co-founded Autumnwood Homes and have continued to be a custom design building company. The company has been in business for over 35 years, staying small and adapting to the changes in the market as each challenge presented itself.

Brad’s vast knowledge and hands-on experience has aided him to blend the best of production and custom home processes. He has been able to combine the qualities of both types of homes to create an affordable product that is both economical and designed for quality, affordability and livability while being tailored to the customer’s individual needs.
